The AI Omnibus, the Data Omnibus, the Digital Networks Act and the Cybersecurity Package are a first necessary step to simplify the EU’s digital rulebook. However, more needs to be done to reduce the regulatory burden and to support Europe’s ability to foster innovation and enhance global competitiveness. Thus, the European Commission should continue its simplification agenda and propose targeted amendments to the EU’s digital acquis.

Europe’s competitiveness is under severe pressure. German industry urges the European co-legislators to agree on an ambitious simplification agenda for the EU’s digital rulebook that reduces bureaucracy and enhances regulatory clarity. Targeted changes are needed for the AI Act, the Cyber Resilience Act, the Cyber Security Act, the Data Act, the Electronic Communications Code and the GDPR. This would unleash innovation and digitalisation across Europe.
